He was responsible for the largest tax cut in Indiana, and signed numerous notable legislations. As he continues his career, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.

A Path to the Vice Presidency

Mike attended Columbus North High School, and after matriculating attended Hanover College to study history. He completed his degree in 1981, and would the study for a JD degree from Indiana University’s Robert H. McKinney School of Law. After graduating, he briefly worked as an admissions counselor at the college. He was initially interested in politics after being inspired by people such as John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr., but along the way he converted to become a born-again Christian, and shifted his political views to the right, attributing his identification with former President Ronald Reagan.

He went on to pursue a career in private practice after completing his law degree, and then tried his hand vying for a congressional seat in 1988 and 1990, but was unsuccessful. He then became the president of the Indiana Policy Review Foundation, staying in that position for two years, before going to host his own radio program entitled “The Mike Pence Show” which was aired through WRCR-FM. He also hosted a weekend political talk show from Indianapolis.

Pence would stay away from the political spotlight for many years, until deciding to revive his political career by running for the US House of Representatives in 2000 and would win Indiana’s 2nd congressional district taking the place of David M. McIntosh who ran for governor. He opposed George W. Bush’s programs such as No Child Left Behind and Medicare prescription drug expansion, and in the process he was re-elected four more times without much of a contest. In 2005, he would become the chairman of the Republican Study Committee, which consisted of conservative House Republicans. This would lead him to try his hand at candidacy for leader of the Republican Party, but he would lose to John Boehner.

In 2011, he then sought a Republican nomination to run as governor of Indiana in 2012 and found himself in a heated race against John R. Gregg and Rupert Boneham, a contest he won with a close margin. During his run as governor, the economy was affected at the start due to sluggish manufacturing sectors and budget cuts. He eventually signed a law blocking local governments from requiring businesses to offer higher wages or benefits beyond those required by federal law. He also made a tax reform – a 10 percent income-tax rate cut which would become the largest tax cut in state history. He also supported increases to education funding, and opposed the Common Core State Standards Initiative, while supporting the coal industry and recruiting the National Rifle Association to train the Indiana National Guard on concealed carry.

In 2016, Mike endorsed Senator Ted Cruz in the 2016 Republican presidential primaries, but surprisingly would then be considered as the vice-presidential running mate of Donald Trump. He would support many of Trumps statements and would stand beside the presidential nominee despite numerous controversies. He would become Vice-President when Trump was elected, and was inaugurated in January 2017. He has performed a lot of ceremonial duties in the position, and presiding over the Senate, became the first Vice-President to cast a tie-breaking vote to confirm a cabinet member.
