Melanie spent her childhood in her hometown of State College, where she was raised the middle of three children – two brothers – by their parents, Doug and Nancy Collins. She is of American nationality and belongs to the white ethnicity.

Afterwards, she had another internship at the Big Ten Network (BTN) as a senior, but stayed there even after graduation to cover Penn State football games.

Melanie’s career moved to the next level in the mid-2010s, when she joined NBA-TV Atlanta, thanks to her previous experience, and undoubtedly her outstanding academic performance has helped her to climb the ladder of success so rapidly. There she worked for a year in the position of an online host and reporter, after which she gained more popularity and reported for such networks as E!
